Genotyping of Sexually Transmitted Diseases
The Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at Todua Clinic is able to detect sexually transmitted infections with different genotypes using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, which has the advantage of speed, accuracy and high sensitivity to even the smallest concentration of the pathogen causing the disease.
Sexually transmitted infections are infections that are most commonly transmitted through sexual intercourse with an infected person. However, the transmission of these infections does not always involve sexual contact. Some of them can be transmitted during childbirth, from mother to foetus, through the sharing of personal items.
Infections can be caused by different types of pathogens, including:
- Mycoplasma Genitalium
- Mycoplasma Hominis
- Ureaplasma Urealyticum
- Ureaplasma Parvum
- Neiseria Gonorrheae
- Gardnerella Vaginalis
- Treponema Pallidum
- Trichomonas Vaginalis
- Chlamydia Trachomatis
- Herpes Simplex Virus type-1 (HSV-1)
- Herpes Simplex Virus type-2 (HSV-2)
A number of symptoms can indicate the presence of sexually transmitted infections in the body, including:
- Painful urination
- Burning sensation when urinating
- Genital discharge
- Bleeding
- Genital itching
- Pain during sexual intercourse
And other general symptoms:
- Lower abdominal discomfort
- Body rash
- Pain in the spine and joints
It should be noted that in many cases these types of infections are completely asymptomatic, which is why early diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases is particularly important, as it reduces the risk of the infection spreading and prevents associated complications of varying severity.
